Free Babywearing Support Group (Slings in the City)
Slings in the City was created for parents who love to wear their babies for parents who are curious about wearing their babies or for parents who are struggling to wear their babies. Some of us are cradling newborns, while others are toting toddlers.
We get together regularly so that we can trade, compare and learn about new carriers -- our idea of play for the grownups -- and so that the kids can play too.
Whether you sling, wrap, mei tai or Bjorn, come check us out. We all found the perfect carrier and so can you! No more dragging the bulky stroller up and down the subway stairs. Everybody is welcome who wants to learn more about Babywearing (Pregnant, TTCing, or adoptive parents- please do not be afraid to join us!)
FREE ( next get together Saturday September 8th from 3 to 5 PM
FREE Attachment Parenting International Meet Up
NYC Attachment Parenting International (API) is a free, child-friendly, peer-led parent support group that offers monthly meetings featuring topics and discussions on common parenting issues such as sleep, crying, nursing, separations, positive discipline and family balance.
API advocates parenting from the heart and helps parents understand and overcome objections, fears and challenges to this style of parenting. We promote parenting tools that are not the typical one-size-fits-all because we recognize that each family is unique. Our parenting tools form a menu of options from which families can select to help them meet parenting challenges in ways that are individual, sensitive and effective and that ultimately nurture the child's emotional wellbeing that is so often overlooked entirely in most popular parenting practices.
Attachment Parenting is a philosophy based in the practice of nurturing parenting methods that create strong emotional bonds, also known as secure attachment, between the child and parent(s). This style of parenting encourages responsiveness to the child's emotional needs, and develops trust that their emotional needs will be met. As a result, this strong attachment helps the child throughout her lifetime to develop secure, empathic, peaceful, and enduring relationships -- the basis of stable mental health and emotional wellbeing.
API's Eight New Prinpals of Attachment Parenting
1. Prepare for Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenting
2. Feed with Love and Respect
3. Respond with Sensitivity
4. Use Nurturing Touch
5. Engage in Nighttime Parenting
6. Provide Consistent and Loving Care
7. Practice Positive Discipline
8. Strive for Balance in Personal and Family Life

In brief, Connection Parenting Workshops are for progressive parents who want to build strong parent/child relationships that can weather the stress of growing up in our complex society--and New York City is about as complex as you can get!
Participants work together as a group to discuss and support each other in implementing enlightened parenting practices that have been proven by the latest research to provide optimal child development. Rosie also guides and supports parents and caregivers in letting go of common, outdated parenting practices that disrupt and block the connection they have with children.
The break in the parent/child relationship leaves children prone to inappropriate and troubling behavior as well as open to unhealthy cultural influences. These innovative workshops are geared towards parents, caregivers and teachers of toddlers through teens, but you can never have these tools too early!
Children are welcome at this introductory session.

Elimination Communication (EC) or Infant Potty Training: for more info click here
Developing an Infant Potty Practice
Half the world does it: find out why, when and how.
Better for baby; better for the environment. It may
sound far out, but before disposable diapers, parents
recognized their baby's cues for when they need to go.
Plus, you and your baby can move out of diapers before
they become a busy and independent toddler!
EC is practiced in many parts of the world and is
known also as Elimination Communication, Natural
Infant Hygiene, and Infant Potty Training. The process
involves observing one's baby's signs and signals,
providing cue sounds and elimination-place
associations, and can be done with or without the use
of diapers. EC builds on the premise that babies are
aware of their elimination needs from birth and
communicate about those needs through various vocal
and bodily signals. EC can be practiced full-time or
part-time, by stay-at-home or working parents.
